So ... last week, we were helping friends move to their beautiful new house. And Friend A is overheard to say to Friend B (who is extremely pregnant) that she is going to ask Friend C (Friend B's husband) to check on the dogs while she (Friend A) is away. But Friend C is going to drill this weekend so that isn't very convenient and Friend B could very well have a baby this week. So what do I do, you might ask? I jump into a conversation that I'm not really involved in and offer to take the dogs.
I expect these dogs to both be small dogs.
They weren't.
The male was small. The female was pretty darn big for an ugly dragon monster.
Yeah, I'm not bitter.
But ...
Truly I am.
Okay, so here comes my venting about the dragon monsters.
1. They smell badly.
2. They aren't potty trained.
3. They whine and bark ALL THE TIME.
4. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED.
Should I repeat that again?? THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED. THEY AREN'T POTTY TRAINED.
I have cleaned up so much poop and pee off of my CARPET this week that I'm really upset about it (clearly).
So here's my logic ... Help Friend B and Friend C by offering to take Friend A's dogs.
Here's the outcome ... Pee and poop in the house ... Fight with husband ... Allergy issues ... Scared guinea pigs.
And the other outcome ... We may not be ready for a dog yet ... or ever. :)
And if we DO end up getting a dog, it will be a real dog. A big dog. A dog that you can't put in a large purse.
Lesson learned? Hell yes.
Will I be offering to dog sit for Friend A again? HELL NO.
Ultimate outcome: One week with dogs = Life lessons learned about communication with husband and making offers before fully thinking about all possible outcomes.
Would I change the last week? Probably not because I got some good reality checks about friends, offers and communication.
Its funny that this happened because I think that I'm generally good at communication. I took all sorts of communications classes in my Masters Degree program and I did quite well at them. So, rather than begging my wonderful husband to assist me with the care of the dragon monsters, I bit the bullet and got up EVERY morning at 4:20 to walk the dragon monsters, to play a little with the dragon monsters, to feed the dragon monsters, etc. My actions did reduce the tension between us because if I made a mistake by making the offer, I wasn't going to add fuel to the fire by asking him to pitch in on something he didn't want to begin with.
The other amusing outcome to this week is that the amount of time that I have spent on Petfinder.com has been SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. lol.
